RABBIT EXTERMINATION. WHAT THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL IS DOING. Some weeks ago the Mayor (Alderman J. Edwards) who is, from his agrarian calling, eminently practical, projected the idea of fencing off a portion of the town common with, wire netting, with the object of reducing Bunny's bill of fare, and a crude idea was formulated of fencing off about 20 acres, and isolating the rapacious rodent, but it gradually dawned on the minds of alder-. :men that such a project would still leave Bunny with a cook and a cooking range, and the Mayor visited a spot which,;; by its surface- appearance, seems to be particularly favored by the gentlemen with the scut, and determined upon a campaign which will spread panic in the rabbit warrens. This spot is situated about, a mile and a half out of town, near'Mr. John Dunn's . slaughter\x=req-\ yard,- and . the' soil is of that particular sand'y loamy nature in_ whicL Bunny loves to burrow. T.liere is the tail-end of the town lagoon .hancly, where there- ...

A BUSHRANGING RELIC. [Newspaper Article] — Forbes Advocate — 12 January 1912

A. BUSHRANGING RELIC. A very old and interesting relic of the early bushranging days is held by Mr Thomas.; Doyle, of Yamma station. . . It .is an ordinary stool, six feet long, which came into Mr Doyle's possession 42 years ago,-and gains its historical attraction from the fact that three notorious bushrangers sat and feasted oii_ It for three days in the early • fifties. Prior to.this, the stool was. the property of Mr Chas. Cropper, J.P., ^the former owner of Yamma station. During Mr Cropper's ownership, the- well-known bushrangers,- Ben Hall, John Gilbert, and John Dunn, arrived, at the station for the purpose: of ^meeting Mr Cropper,; whom,, they intended to shoot, as they contended lie had helped the police in tracking them. Finding Mr Cropper hot at home, they intimated to Mrs Cropper their, in ten-' tion to stay three days, in hopes of. meeting the owner, and while, there took possession of the stool in question, where: they sat, and ate, and' talked the best of their time. ...
