STATE SCHOOL IN WEST MLEL. BOURNE. AIr. David Blair has been making him self vary busy interviewing the Minister of Lands, with the object ?of preventing a piece of gIound in King street being used as a site for a Statp School. Mr. Blair pointed out that if the school was ereoted a number of the residents would at once remove from the district, as the value of property would be greatly re duced. Mr. Casey explained that he was almost powerless to interfere in the mat tor, as the erection of state schools came properly within the control of the do partment of Pubhlo Instruction. The site in question hasd boon originally granted to the City Corporatioh for the erection of baths, but during the past few months negotiations had beoon in course of progress between the department and the corporation for. an exchange of this site for a pieco of ground near the nMeat-market, which the council considered would be of more service to them. BRUNSWICK FREE LIBRARY. [Newspaper Article] — North Melbourne Advertiser — 17 April 1874

BRUNSWICK FREE LIBRARY. The Committee of the Brunswick Mechanics' Institute and Free Library have arranged for a series of popular letures and concerts in aid of the build ing fund of the institution during the winter months. The first entertainment is to be given on Tuesday, the 28th inst., when the Rev. W. Garner will exhibit his magnificient illustrations of " Livingrtone's Travels in Africa," to be shown by the lime light on a disc up wards of 15 feet in diameter. We understand the views depicting the manners and customs of the Africans are very superior, and recent events having made the subject of the lecture more deeply interestiug, we doubt not there will be a crowded house to learn something more of the intrepid explorer's doings in the land where he spent so many years of his life, and at last suc cumbed in his efforts to open up the country to civilization. The next con cert in aid of the Free Library is to be given by the Brunswick Harmonic Society on Tuesday, May 2(th, ...

Brickey has a tongue and and voice which when drunk he uses in giving expression to the most foul and filthy epithets, and can be heard through out the district. Constable Shaffray ad monished the fellow and tried to induce him to go home quietly, but without avail, as he only fell in for his share of abuse, the result being that the neighbor lhood is rid of this pest for 14 days.
