LAMPS IN ROWE-STi REET. TO THE EDITOR OF O YENT MAIL. Srm,--Kindly allow me space in your columns to reply to one sign-1 injug himself "Fair Deal to Rate payers." Your contributor claims that it is TAN MONTaE since a deputation waited on our Council re this snisatter. As a matter of fact, it was just eight weeks to the time his letter appeared in your columns since the deputation was received. No doubt this little dis crepaney of time was not of muchi' consequence to your correspondent. Also, it must have been rather annoying to him to fnd that they lamps were erected and in usn be-f fore his letter appeared in print. i He further asks, " Was it becausel Cr Farrell moved the motion?" For the information of ratepayers, allow me to explain that the depu- i tion asked for two ilmps only. i After they withdrew, Cr Farrel moved that their requst be grante t The President (Cr Pickering) aske It Cr Farrell to inciude another lan p:t at the corner of Cooper-strect. ! A QUERY. TO THEa DITOR OF OUYRN MAIL. SIa,-I have before me the balance-sheet of the Walpeup Shire Council for the year ending 30th September, 1913, and under the statement of receipts and expendi ture I notice amongst other funny items the following: Engineering commission, £250 16/S -- East Riding £69 15/11, West Riding £181 0/6-a difference of Li11 4/7 in favor of the East Riding. As it was Cr Farrell who laid out these works in the East Riding, I will ask him to explain, if he can, the following : 1. How is it that the engineer ing commission in the West Riding is more than-double that in the East Riding ? 2. Did he receive any remunera tion for his services; .and if so, how much ? 3. Re hire of conveyances. t17 12/1-East Riding £11 12/2, West Riding f5 19/11 - did he (Cr Farrell) put in any claim for his horse and gig?
