Recently ;re had one showroom window blown fty the force of a gale, and on Tues day he had tne misfortune to have tho other window and several sidelights smashed, through a motor lorry en tering tile premises by this unusual means. The. lorry was owned and driven by Mr. T. Dobell, of Mount Mclntyre, and in backing from the other side of the street to turn round, the lorry, by some means, got out of baud, and did not stop until it had smashed the window. Mr. George looked on the wreck with a benign countenance, but never lost his equable temper, and a facetious wag volunteered the information that "Billy george had got a new advertising stunt." Tlie window is insured.

MIRTHMAKERS LTD., AT MOUNT BARKER. Under the name ot "Mirthmakers, Limited," a company of talented city artists have banded themselves to gether for the purpose of giving charity concerts. Recently costumes were secured by the company, and in order to pay for these the Mirth makers intend giving a series of con certs. On Wednesday of last week the combination appeared in the Mount Barker Institute and played an excellent program to a poor house— much poorer than the quality of the • show demanded. Miss Irene Kemp L.A.BU presided at tile piano, and she captivated her audience after the lirst few chords had been struck. Miss Kemp is oue of South Australia's fore most plauistes and she is a splendid asset to the company. Her sym pathetic accompaniments to the dif ferent artists were excellent. Miss Dorothy Reed, who has been heard in Mount Barker on two or three occa sions repeated her former successes, her rich contralto voice appealing strongly to the audience. Miss Doreen Skinner, t...

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 18 February 1927

WHAT DOES IT MEAN? Businessmen of Murray Bridge are puzzled at tbe action of the Railways ' Commissioners in their latest regu- J latiou in regard to the treatment of ! parcels _ sent over the railways. Hitherto no difference was made in regard to the ratea for parcels whether sent carriage forward or car riage paid, but a recent innovation adds a booking fee of 25 per cent, over the ordinary rate for any parcels sent carriage forward, with the result that tradesmen are having their pargets consigned by private carrier. What puzzles the man in the street is why the department should institute, such a charge, seeing that it is the depart ment which collects ■ the money no matter at what end of the journey the fee la paid, and the department is guaranteed against loss by the fact that it holds the goods pntil the charge is paid
