To the Editor of the Jamnieson Chronicle. Per favor of the "Alexandra Times." StR,-I truste you will allow me a small ?paeta in your next issue to c, .trailct son. error.:, or mraiseratenents in your p tp r of lIstt sitar day. I will first deal with the editorial remarks : " But that by flseo representatiotns they should havo succaeded in obtaining the number of siguatures to a petition for. such annexation." I should like to know in' what manner I, the only person responsiblb for obtaining such signatures, made "falso representations." The memorial, as you' are aware, is very brief, and fully, ezolaius ?his object in view, and that the while of the storekeepors pubhoans tnd beersellers, to get.her with a largo number ot miners resident in the portion of the country sough't to be ancexed, should even by any artifice or ruse be inauced to sign any document thenature of which they were unaware o+ speaks very little for the intelligen:e of the inhabitants aB seen from a Jamiesou point ...

Original Poetry. THE HERMIT [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Times — 14 January 1869

THE HIERMIT Far from the haunts of bonymen; Far from the gay world's endh as strife; Deep in a lone sequestered glen, I pass the fading eve of lilt. Birds, my companions all day long, From morn till eve their maker praise; At morning dawn, in matin song ; With eve's last blush, in thrilling lays. Yon limpid brook alone I drink; You simple garden gives me food ; Yon stars that ever watch and wink, They are my guardian angels good. Tihe Evening Star when day doth close, Sinks peacefully beyond the west ; Like herb, so gontle my repolse. So calm be my eternal rest. Alexandra. 2nd January, ld69.
