WE are indebted to Captain Hint, of tbe Tinonee, s.s., for the following interesting par- ticulars of tho disastrous voyage of tho Maria, bound from Sydney for New Guinea, with an expedition on board for tue establishment of a settlement on tbat island. Captain Hirst ob- tained the information from Mr. Sanneohsen, chief officer of the ill-fated vessel, Dr. Tate, Mr. Hargrave treasurer of the expedition, and Mr. Cobol, Üie storekeeper-all of whom escaped from the wreck and reached Cardwell in safety. The brig Maria left Sydney on the 26th January, bound for New Guinea, with an expe- dition consisting of seventy-five people, including ilia captain and crow, oho experienced light head winda to the Solitaries, when sho spoke tho ». ARRIVAL OF THE "LIGHT BRIGADE," WITH IMMIGRANTS. TUG immigrant sbip " Light Brigade," anchored in Keppel Bay on the 28th February, having made the ruu from Gravesend in the remarkably quick time of eighty-seven days. The Health Officer and Immigration Commis- sioner, Dr. Salmond, and Hr. Livermore, a mombcr of the Local Immigration Boird, accompanied by representatives of the Press, started for the Bay in tho Government steamer " Mary" at four o'clock on tho same after- noon.
