A t _^ evieui Past Yea p . With last issue the first year of The Ggttvshurgian closed , and with this one the active work of the first editorial board . The new board which will take charge of the paper for the coming year we believe to be thoroughly competent in every way to continue The Gettvsburgian s successful career . The experiences from the start have been varied in character ; at first it was a desperate struggle for existence , then came the routine of regular work . Many times we have been late with our issues , a fault particularly our own but it was unavoidable since the regular studies of college life are with us constantly . There have been times when at the last moment we were disappointed in procuring articles for the paper , necessitating a delay . During the past year we have striven to make the first page of especial interest , devoting it entirely to short spicy news which might prove acceptable reading to all . Many congratulatory letters have been received on ...

The Second Glee Club Entertainment . Considerable interest has been manifested on the part of the students in the second Glee Club s first public entertainment , which was given in Abbottstown on last Saturday evening . It gives us great pleasure to announce that this entertainment was a pionounced success , reflecting very creditably on the ability of the Club as well as the College which can send out a second glee club of such great merit . We take the following from an article in the Hanover Evening Herald : The Second College Glee Club , and Mandolin and Guitar Club , and Reciter , Hregen / er , of Pennsylvania College , gave an entertainment in the Lutheran church at Abbottstotvn on Saturday evening last . The affair was a grand success , the lecture-room of the church being filled by an appreciative audience . The recitations of Mr . Bregenzer were greatly enjoyed , and the musical parts of the program were repeatedly encored . After the close of the . entertainment the clubs ...

Sena ton Wellington s Visit . Some weeks ago the Christian Endeavor Society of College church invited Hon . George L Wellington , United States Senator from Maryland , to visit Gettysburg and deliver his lecture on Martin Luther . He has accepted the invitation , and named Thursday , evening , March 10 th , as the time when it will be bis pleasure to comply with their request . The readers of Tun _Gettvsburgian probably will recall Senator Wellington s rapid rise to political prominence , he being the leader of his party in Maryland when the State , for the first time in twenty-five years , was swung over to the Republican party . They will recall , also , his characteristically emphatic protest , on the floor of the United States Senate , against the interference of outside politicians which brought him into apparent conflict with President McKinley , for whom Maryland had cast her electoral vote . Probably not so many know that Senator Wellington , though not yet fifty years of ag...

_ATHLETIC NEWS . The cage , after several delays , has been completed and is fitted out excellently . The bowling alleys which wcie torn out , and the partition moved back gives sufficient 100 m for unhampered piactice at both pitching and batting . The cage has been padded at both ends , and the numerous _, windows along the wall give plenty of light foi piactice . Wire netting has been placed along the inside of the cage so that spectatois can see the piactice . A clay floor has been put in and nicely rolled and will probably be coveied with tan baik . With such an excellent cage and hard practice Gettysburg should have a team with a fine record this year . Captain Hums desires all the candidates for the team to repott at once for piactice . There is but one position on the team the management has been troubled about , that of catchci . But judging from the piomising work of the candidates—Brown , Roehner , Alcott , and Kiaut , Jr , Captain Bums thinks he will be able to develop a...
