SB •tliVJCR MINING ON LAKK SUPERIOR Altkoigh it-ylias long been known that nth niter deposits existed in numerous localities on Lake Superior, there has heretofore been no sjtenntie attempt at mining the argentiferous material. With large quantity of the crop of 1869, yet on oar hands, aud the great harvest of the present year daily—as tho grain is threshed—giving evidence of its bountifulneas, closely follows the question of what shall we do with onr grain, and can it be disposed of at prices that will remunerate, that will pay a reasonable proCt, and, in many cases, help out of his perplexities, the farmer who finds himself embarrassed and encumbered with his accumulated debts. The price, especially of wheat, our staple, has through steam and rail monopolies, through rings and combina tions from the least unto tho greatest, fallen so low as to pay no profit to him who raises it, and to actually cause him to lose money in its culture, unless he be a very fortunate man.
