Not being able- to discern from what part of the bouse the strange uoiee came. I ad vanced stealthily through the hall and into the sittiDg room, into which the first rays of the morning sua were failing from the east ern window, and there found the furniture engaged in a wordy war. The clock was on a strike for the fiftieth time that day, and grumbiiDgly declared it could not afford to run any longer on tick. All the officers of the Senate are democrat!. In the House, Hon. J. H. Webb, Radical, of Brad ford county; was elected Speaker, and Gen. Stilfridge, Radical, of Northampton county, was chosen Clerk. The huge enterprise, commenced about five years ago, daring the lifetime of Archbishop Hughes, is now pro gressing towards completion as rapidly as circumstances will admit, under the direction of ArchhUhop McCiohkey. The time esti mated to fiuiah this work is about twenty years. jAt present considerably over one hundred men are employed in quarrying, Btne-cutting, masonry, and general labor.
