Crook, while on his way through that place to Maryland. In an interview ho spoke of the 1200 Chiricahuas who came from Mexico with him. Tho special census of the White Mountain reser vation Indians, by order of tho Indian llepartmcnt, places the Chiricahuas as numbering 21G. Tho Warm Spring Indians wcro probably included as Chiricahua3 by the General, which arc also authoritively stated, by tho pub lished census, as numbering 275. The two tribes aggregate 521, or 079 less than tho number given to tho Albu qucrquo Journal by Crook, as return ing with him from Mexico. Tho 74 Chiricahua bucks who left tho reser vation for Mexico September 30th, 1881, with their squaws and children, comprised the cntiro fighting forco of that tribe.
