Key match-ups decide second, fourth places J|Hts j Belmont already has claimed the 1979-' DO Northern League basketball crown, but the race for second and fourth place could be decided today in a pair of crucial match-ups. Eagle Rock (5-3) travels to Wilson (5-3) for a game that will leave the winner in sole possession of second place with one game remaining, while Lincoln hosts Marshall with fourth place on the line. Tip-off for both games is 4 p.m. Wilson would have been in a position to finish no worse then a tied for second, but the Mules stumbled on Friday against Marshall, 50-49. Wrestlers win,45~l 5 Joe Thrash scored a narrow 12-11 victory over Fremont’s Issac Mitchell to spark Franklin’s Panthers to a 46-15 Central League wrestling win against the visiting Pathfinders last Thursday afternoon. Thrash, the defending L.A. City Section champion at 106-pounds, beat Mitchell unbeaten in Central League action going into the match and the L.A. Invitational Tournament titlist in the 123-pound division. The Panthers won bouts in eight of 13 weight classes and were awarded two others on forfeits to run their Central league record 1o 3-0. Fremont ,is now 2-1 and tied for second with Poly, while Sylmar sports a 1-2 mark and Jefferson and Van Nuys arc both 0-2, Jefferson and Van Nuys have a make-up match set for next Monday. Bengalis, Bulldogs battle for first Coach Bill Westphal and Occidental College basketball team can take over sole possession of first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings tonight when the Tigers host the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands. CHS upends LaSalle Cathedral's Phantoms continue to improve in Santa Fe League basketball as evidenced by their latest win, a 67-62 upset of towering La Salle last Friday night. Guard Nat Domingo fired in 10 of 16 shots from the floor and finished with a game high 23 points and senior Jack McClendon scored 12 pulled down nine rebounds and handed-off 11 assists to spark the Phantom effort. The Phantoms travel to meet powerful Bell-Jeff this coming Saturday night at L.A. Valley College before returning home to face Bosco Tech in the regular season finale on Tuesday. Cards outlast Mustangs Cantwell reversed a 26-23 halftime defecit with a 22-5 scoring binge in the third period as the Cards defeated the visiting Salesian Mustangs for the second time this season last Friday afternoon, 59-44. Raul Martinez sparked the host Cardinals with 16 points as four Cantwell players scored in double figures. The Cards opened with the first six points of the third period to take a 2926 lead before Salesian’s John Sapp hit his team's initial bucket. Sapp led all scorers with 20 points. Increase city golf cart fee [Newspaper Article] — Belvedere Citizen / Eastside Journal — 6 February 1980

Increase city golf cart fee Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Commissioners have approved an increase in the rental fee for carts on city operated golf courses effective March 1. The approval came after a request ' from the J. H. Kishi Company, the department’s golf cart concessionaire, to raise the fee from $9 to $lO for 18-holes and from $5 to $5.50 for nine holes. Rates at city courses are now comparable with those charged at similar facilities in the rest of southern California. The commissioners noted that the •increases Were made to keep pace with the raising costs of material and labor necessary to operate the carts on city courses. Rates are subject to approval by the Army Corps of Engineers at the Sepulveda and Hansen Dam facilities.

Banuelos scores 41 Belmont's Sam Banuelos scored a career high 41 points, Including 11 at the start of the fourth period when the Sentinels outscored the host Eagles 17-6, to lead his team to a 10488 rout at Eagle Rock Friday night. The win cinched the 1979-' BO Northern league basketball title for Belmont (8-01 with two games remaining. Both Eagle Rock and Wilson are tied tor second place with 5-3 records. Banuelos was redhot hitting 18 of 23 shot attempts from the floor, pulling down eight rebounds handing off six assists and recording five steals. Belmont also got 28 points, 14 of 19 from the floor, from Mario Navarro as five Sentinel players finished in double figures. Tigers edge FHS, 30-29 Lincoln's Charles Rosas scored a game high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 30-29 homecourt win over Franklin last Friday afternoon. Rosas hit six of 10 shots from the field and was eight for 10 at the line as only three players scored for the host Tigers. Only other. Mules upset, 50-49 Wilson launched a fourth period rally that fell one point short of sending the game into overtime as Marshall's Barristers registered a 50-49 Northern league upset Friday afternoon on the Mules home court. The loss dropped Wilson into a tie for second place with Eagle Rock, while Marshall moved up into a fourth place tie with Lincoln. Marshall’s John Soo Hoo scored a game high 22 points hitting eight of 13 shots at the free throw line, and Mike Shiroyan added 12 more points to the Barrister cause. The Mules, trying to recover from a 82-73 defeat to Belmont two days earlier, couldn’t get untracked first missing five straight lay-ins to open the game and then having the final shot roll out of the basket at the buzzer.
