A Woman’s Whys [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 27 August 1910
A Woman’s Whys Why is it that a woman will pattern her new gown after another’s and at the same time resent having anyone copy hers? « • * Why is it that when rich .people livevery plainly they call it the "simple life," when with poor people it is just simple poverty? ss * * Why are we so apt to judge people from the standpoint of their few little failings or eccentricities rather than the many sterling qualities which they possess? • o * Why is it that the voiced and often times greatly exaggerated appreciation for the performance of some slight service is like meat and drink to vain mortal man? • * * Why should every woman take an active interest in a movement which uplifts and strengthens a common cause, even though she should not happen to be a parent nor teacher? • * * Why should a man expect to draw anv comparison between the immaculate appearance of the young lady in his office and the hastily donned toilet of his wife who perchance cooks his early breakfast and starts him o...

Nature's Beauty Enjoyed At Romantic Landmark [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 3 September 1910
Nature's Beauty Enjoyed At Romantic Landmark The birds of prey on graceful wing will no longer circle the crest of the historic Eagle Rock. The wierd coyote whose den has been in the fastness of the solid mass of rock for countless years has been obliged to seek another habitude. Nature has rested undisturbed in her ungoverned appearance for centuries here, but now civilization has conquered. With the advent of the electrical line all this has left and the throngs of visitors, the thrill of the noisy cars and the passing autos have driven nature further back into uncivilization. The solitude of the hills will be forever expelled. The rails are now laid within a few feet of the very foundation of this far-famed landmark. The underbrush has been cleared in the romantic canyon and rustic bridges of artistic design cross the little stream of clear water that winds its way down the shady valley. A great cc- incut bridge crosses the canyon at a point near the rock and here will pass the t...
