Rio Grande Affairs. New Yonx, March 3. The Times' Washington correspondent says : Clerks were cmplo\ ed till a late hour last night in the State Department copying Gov. Houston's dispatches, and they were communicated to the Senate to-day. Gov. Houston has received more than eighty appKcati ins from gentlemen desiring to raise volunteers. He has advised that such companies be raised, officered in every frontier county, and that a system of espionage be agreed upon, end that, in case of alarm, pursuit be given, and the invaders or thieves, whether Indians or whites in the garb ot Indians, be exterminated. AN ACT to Prohibit Gaming. The People of the Sate of California, represented in Senate and assembly, do enact as follows: Section 1. Each and every person who shall deal, play or carry on, open or cans- to be opened, or who shall conduct, either as owner or employe, whether for hire or not, any game of iaro, monte, roulette, lansquenet, rouge et noir, rondo, or any banking game played with cards, dice, or any other device, whether the same be played for money, checks, credit, or any other representative of value, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars and not more than one thousand dollars, and shall be imprisoned in the county jail until such fine, together with the costs of prosecution, to be taxed against the defendant, shall be paid.
