$hc -Daily Jims. DENIWON. THURSDAY JULY \ 1S78 In Congress Gov. Throckmorton was an earnest advocate of an army large enough to furnish perfect pro- tection ou our extensive frontier, and lie still liopes that the general govern- ment will perform this duty, but in the meantime he says Texas nau&t he protected, and he utterly repudiates the**Fafse economy and suicidal ex- travagance of dispensing with state provisions for state defense, in order to save the cost of such provisions to the state treasury. This is the kind of a man Texas wants as chief executive. Gov. The jOamfltihus. DENISON. SATURDAY JULY6, 4878- There is a siruill war cloud on the Mexican border which may devetope into a storm. Diaz has officially no- tified our government that if United States tijoops agiyti cross into Mexico he will resist them by force of arms. Evarts is opposed to revoki ng exist- ing orders, and General Ord has been summoned to Washington for consultation. yipws now is that General Ord has been ordered to carry out his established policy in pursuing thieves and murderers, vyith the assurance that if his troops are attacked in carrying out orders on Mexican soil, the Mexicans will be met with force of arms instead of difj plomacy. It is evident from this that Mexican thieves will have to keep ort the west side of the Rio Grande or there wijl be a row, as we do not be- lieve our government will back down, while we are very certain General Ord will carry out his or- ders to the letter. 1 ' { ■ * 'v™' SPECIAL LOCALS.
