MANSFIELD HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Hospital Committee was held at the Shire Hlall, Mansfield, on the 26ht ult, when there were present Dr Rowe (in the chair), and Messrs Kitchen, Martin, Crockett, Smith, Hearn,and Sherring. The Treasurer read the financial statement show ing the amount collected to be £125 18s. Mr Martin handed in subscriptions to the 'amount of £2 3s. Dr. Reynold's account for attendance on Andrew Tracy (since dead), amounting to £11 15s,was passed for payment; also, Mrs Swain's accouut of £2 10s for board, lodging, and nursing; and £l to L. Gerrard for digging the grave. It was moved by Mr. Kitchen, and seconded by Mr. Martin, that the offer of Mr. Bromfield to draw plans and specifications for the new hospital at 2 1/2 per cent on the actual outlay be adopted. Carried. Several matters of importance were discussed, and the secretary, Mr E. M. Robinson, was instructed to conduct the necessaty correspon dence before next meeting.

THE INSURRECTION .IN CUBA. Adjutant-oeneral Jordan, of the Cuban (insur gent) army, has written a latter in which he declares that the Cubans need no foreign soldiers, brit-only arms and clothing.r The Cuban army numbers 26,800 men who have arms, and they are aided by 40,000 emancipated negroes, sup plied with the machetes, a weapon half hatchet and half meatbxce. They' have refrained from attacking cities and forts, because, being without artillery, they could not huld them.
