THE REV. W. B. CLARKE. [Newspaper Article] — Geelong Advertiser and Intelligencer — 11 February 1852

THE REV. W. B. CLARKE. - (From the Sydney Herald.) WE have for some time been anxiously expecting intelligence of the movements of the Rev. Mr. Clarke, who, as is well , known, has been engaged, by order oft the Government, in making a geological examination of the southern country since the month of September last; and s we are gratified in now being able to present our readers with some intcrest inu details of his proceedings through a correspondence which has passed be tween him and a friend, from which we have been favoured with the follewing abstract. We are aware that the Go vernment have received from him several reports, and that according to a vote of Council, they are in the printer's hands, together with the report of Mfr. Stutch bury, the colonial geologist, who has been exploring the district of Bathurst, as far westward as Wellington; as also the report of Sir Thomas Mitchell, of the same district. The long delayed appearance of the reports, which, how ever, we underst...

TIE GOVEKNXMEENT I AND SALE IS TO TAKI, PLACE TO-D.Y. W'E .i n-)t think that there will be much cmmpntitinn. Town lands, if bought, cannot be built upon, while few cnn see their way clearly in t;:e purchase of lands 'fJr farming. Another raszon for cur belief that the competition will not be great, is, the fact :hat there is not a plan, chart, or trac ing of any kinl to be seen in the town. :;obly knows evea where many of the a ishbs are. The Arga. hias for some time been ,:ere:tly aIvocating a rceurrence to the 4,l sEstem of centralizing the sales in frelbourue The Portland lales are mest pointedly referred to. The land, recrdiow tj the Argus, is about to be thrown a-ay with an exorbitant reerre I;ri e; we cannot see how this is possible.
