ADDITIONAL GOLD REGULATIONS. To the Editor of the " Bathurst Free Press and Mining Journal." [Newspaper Article] — Bathurst Free Press and Mining Journal — 25 October 1851

ADDITIONAL GOLD REGULATIONS. To the. Editor of the «? Bat hurst Free) Press and Mining Journal.' Sir. — The importance of the new regu lations now promulgated . induces me to offer a ,few remarks upon thtir nature. They are of great moment, inasmuch, a3 they are ; calculated to do this colony aa immense amount of mischief, by preventing, that influx of capital and intelligence which would undoubtedly flow from the mother country, and enrich this splendid region. What is it but establishing- the hated and partially obliterated ' Excise System ?'* They are in opposition to the spirit of the age. (These observations are particularly directed against the fourth regulation, having reference to quartz crushing.) A door will be opened by the adoption of these measures to a system of espionage, bribery, and probably perjury, hitherto uq known in the colony. They remind U3 of that inquisitorial enactment which thrust an excise .officer? into _e very glass house, who -v was 7 placed there to ...
