CORRESPONDENCE. ' THE GRENFELL PRIVATE INQUIRY OFFICE. (TO TIIB EDITOB OF TBS 1TININO BECOBD.) 8ib— It baa become customary of late to cx elude tho public from the Court Houso, in coses of criminal assault with iotent. While such a course is adopted as that of turning our Police Office into a Chamber of Inquisition, tho public naturally look with suspicion upon tho fairness of such procecd* ings, and a_ contempt of tho administration of justico is the conscqaence. . What, Mr. Editor, was thero In the affair on Tuesday, demanding the exclusion of the public t Were others than the parties before tho court wanted to complcto the evidence ? Or is the standing of tho accuscd to bo consulted in criminal mutters ? Under what law does the Grenfell Bench set aside the usual course of procedure acted upou in all parts of tho Empire ?
