It is known as Devonshire cream, and not many people, in this country especially, know what it is, bnt suppose it to be the particularly rich cream of the county in question, whereas every housekeeper may have Devonshire cream on lier own table, if she will take the trouble to prepare it. A Simple Filter A GOOD and thoroughly efficient filter can be made by taking a good, sound cast-large or small, according to your water requirement-put in a layer of good pebbles (well washed), then six inches of charcoal, another layer of pebbles or washed gravel, and another of charcoal; yoa may, if convenient, separate them by a plate of sheet iron, in which holes hare been punched. Press each layer welj down. A top layer of clean sand will retain any foreign matter, and can be easily changed. A little quick-lime now and then will improve the water, most Australian water being deficient in that respect Mr- Justice Innes on Friday interpreted the Hospitals Act, section 5, to imply that paid-np subscribers for 1893 had % right to vole for the elections of committees and doctors for both 1893 and 1894. Stephen, instructed by Messrs. Crick and Meagher, appeared tor the appellant, Quentin McQuorn; McHaffie, and   Mr. G. Simpson, Q.C., and Mr. Canaway, instructed by the Crown Solicitor, for the Minister for Lands. This was an appeal on behalf of McHaffie from the decision of the Land Court. The special case set out the following facts:-In 1883 George Hubbard conditionally purchased 303 1/4 acres of Crown lands in the Central division, and lying on the northern bank of Ewenmar Creek, being measured portion 33 in the county of Ewenmar, parish of Beemunnel.
