SUBMARINE VOLCANGES IN Till, PACIFIC. ----. Captains who have lately: crossc6 the Pacific report evidences of gig antic: volcanic mrnovements midway between- Seattle (on the extreme north-west coast of.. America-) .and Japan. Substantial signs of- unus ual, activity were found in :a thin. Sf1lni of ashes on the water's surface. This eruption, has -to all appear !ai'ce, changed the entire trade cur rint of the Japan;stream nearly 500 miles of. its true. cour.+ . The pro Bence. o. volcanic, dust oui the North ;'Pacific<waters is .no new thing. The.? change- in:the. Japan trade current is another, matter. A divergenco of the stream to the distance of 500 miles io+othiwould make the change very apparent in the weather of the two latitudes. That trade currents are. tnfluenced.?by, land obstructions goes without saying, but there would have, to be a very considerable change in the submarine topography of the old course of the current to effect such a change. That it might • occ...

THE CAMORRA. --+- A' TERRIBLE SECRET SOCIETY. There is no country in Europe where the conditions of life-for the mass of people-have improved so much during the last few years than in: Italy, and yet Italy is the one country in Euroue where the secret society remains a scoirge of the populace. Dlackmal. and murder are the favourite weap ons of the society. During the last elections an at tempt. was made by one merchant of Naples to defy the Camorra. Taggerty always seem to " hit " a splendid day, and as their presi dent remarked, "they must all have been born under the lucky star." We are inclined to believe him. As the re. suilt of a capital day's sport, everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Alexandra Brass Band, under Mr. J. Hosken, rendered a first-class programme of music during the afternoon, which added greatly to the success of the meeting. Mr. 3J. Wylie (president) thanked the band for the large number of items they had played, and stated that last year the sports committee were die pleased with the very few pieces they had dispensed, but he was sure that the band had easily doubled the number of items this year and hoped that when. the 1910 gathering came t...
