OUR OPEN COLUMN NOXIOUS WEEDS ERADICATION. (To the Editor) ,Sir, — r notice in your issue of .lG.th December the Noxious Weeds In spector's report on-T. Dunn's pro- .,, perty, 'where nothing was done' ???....? in. reference to St. , John s.. . wort. ? ? I would like to draw the in- . spector's attention to the fact that the plants were mattoclced ; out, but not burnt, and if the inspector had given a certain time .they would have been burnt. When the inspector sent his man to inspect and salt St. John's wort he told the lessee that he had ordered five bags of salt to salt the plants.: I watched his man salt them, and it took one bag of salt. I told. Marzol it was ridiculous for five bags of salt. He said one! would be sufficient, and he put salt on where it was mattocked out. I have the time when he started and finished, and if a man can't salt it all . on this property in four hours I will forfeit £5 to the Tumut Hospital.' I have a witness to say that , it .was-, ... , mattocked o...

CADARA SHIRE COUNCIL. (Continuation of Report from issue of December 15). NOXIOUS WEEDS Cr. Benson thought the idea of pla cing an estimate on the cost of kill ing St. John's wort on such infested lands as Manus was absurd. President wanted to know if Shire would join in the County Council to be frmed to deal with noxious weeds. Cr. Grain questioned if it were wise to fall in with the movement. Cr. Godfrey contended that their interests could not remain within their boundaries while attention to checking the spread of noxious weeds was not given without the Shire. The Shire must be assisted by Govern ment subsidy at least .£ for £, and to ultimately cope with it larger am ounts would have to be found as time goes on. Certain times of the year two inspections were needed. Quotes for the supply of salt, with samples, to be obtained from the wholesale houses as well as from Mr. R. U. Alley, Adelong, on motion of Messrs Benson and Crain. In reply to the President, Inspector Cotton said ...
