MAKE YOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Korong Vale Lance and North West Advertiser — 21 March 1914

MAKE YOUR DISTRICT KNOWN. Concerning some pnrts of this exten sive district noivs comes but seldom. This is not entirely our fault ; we have no miraculous power of knowing what is happening at all the places within our area of circulation. It is the fault of residents in the silent places. Will some man or woman tal;e the matter in hand and cause the silence to cease. If no one else is doing it for your district will you try on these lines ? Send accounts of public and social events in your township or neighbour-, hood, such as weddings, deaths, accid ents, concerts, sports, social gatherings, matters touching district industries, clc. Write the names of persons and places very distinctly. Don't bother about grammar or spell ing ; it's the'editor's work to look after ilio=e trifles. The barest skeleton is enough. Write only on one side of the paper. Give information, but let criticism, alone. ' - . Write your name and address on some corner—not for publication, but to prove good fai...

GIRLS AS JUDGES COMMUNITY RUN BY CHILDRE-N. -A-London' magistrate was present when the court of tho Little Common wealth at Flowers Farm, Batcombe, sat at the week-end to investigate certain i charges which had been brought I against the citizens of the unique com munity amongst the hills of' Dorset shire (says the Dorchester correspon dent of the "Daily Chronicle"). I In this community a number of chil dren—whoso characters are not unble mished, they having been sent to tho farm from various juvenUe courts throughout the country—are framing their own laws, administering their own punishments, devising their own stan dards of conduct, and evolving a sys tem of life unchecked by any authority beyond that exerted by. their own pub lic opinion. WOMAN SUFFRAGE DM MAND FOR GOVERNMENT MEASURE. [Newspaper Article] — Korong Vale Lance and North West Advertiser — 21 March 1914

WOMAN SUFFRAGE DM MAND FOR GOVERNMENT MEASURE. (By Mrs M. G. Fawcctt, in "Daily • News and Leader.") All tho fillff 10go societies, whatever their fundamental differences as to me thods, aro now agreed that In order to obtain the object which they have in, common a Government measure Is a necessity. They aro unanimously of tho opinion that a private member's Bill Is no good, and that -'those—who .vould persuade them to the contrary, at this stage in the history of the move ment, are'simply trifling with tho sub ject. All that can be done to promote women's suffrage by means of private members' Bills has been done. T will not say it has been useless: far from it. It has been good, for purposes of propaganda, to draw.attention to the fact that "the people" consist of men and women, and that to enfranchise only one half of "the people" Is a very im perfect and lop-sidei interpretation of democracy: the meetings in support nf the various private • members' Bills and the debates upon the...
