Since thg my course has been slid westward, and Thursday night found me at this place, which is the county scat of Green county. The routs which 1 have passed from Milwaukie here is most beautiful and the countrv passed over such as the eye de lights to gaze upon. 1 had heard much of the beamy of the Kock Kivcr country, but when I came to survey it myself, I had to acknowledge that the one-half had not been told me. I crossed Rock Kivcr at Jancsville, a beautiful and thriving little town with a pretty court house, and what is rare in this country, two elegant and well kept hotels. On arriving here 1 found that the court was in session and that the celebrated case of the United Stain vs. James Vineyard was about to he brought to trial.
