1 ____— A New Opportunity Four weeks ago the student leaders returned from their conference at Camp Canadensis full of enthusiasm for the new F and M which their energy was going to build . The results of this freshness of approach have been evident in many areas of campus life this Anyone who has had the opportunity of seeing the College develop over the past two or three years is certainly aware of the tremendous progress made in a number of areas , not the least of which is student interest and participation in the College . We could cite , for instance , the College s improved social activities due solely to student interest and involvement as expressed through the Student Union Board , dormitory groups and fraternities . Other instances of the expansion of student concern are visible in last year s and this year s Ad Hoc Committees On extracurricular life . These groups have already brought forth some changes and promise to help create others through well-researched reports and...

Letters to the Editors Student Deplores Republican Tactics To the Editors : Adhering more generally to the precepts of the Democratic Party ( whatever that may mean ) , I neverthe less looked on Barry Goldwater as a man with enough integrity and intelligence to insure a clean campaign and one that might appeal to the intellect and not the emotions Yet , strangely enough , it is the Republicans , who all along abhorred ( and rightly so ) Democratic tactics depicting Goldwater as a button-pushing John Bircher _, that have now dragged the 64 race into the lowest and most rancid depths . Humphrey Attatked I refer specifically to the blurbfilled piece of trash entitled Hubert Humphrey and the ADA that someone , who did not have the guts to hand it to me , shoved under my door this evening In this piece of political pornography Humphreys ADA is accused of the heinous crime of standing for gensral and complete disarmament under UN control . Maybe I m naive , but I thought that we all wish ...

Bennett , ts co-ediioi with Reinhold Niebulu Bennett is a membei of the Boaid of Tiustea of the College and Dean of the Faculty of Union Thological Seminary The nomination of Senator Barry Goldwater creates a quite new problem for ministers and for many other representative churchmen In previous national campaigns Christianity and Crisis nas not supported a candidate We have been content to publish articles setting forth the positions of both major parties During one campaign we ran articles by Chester Bowles representing the Democrats and Paul Hoffman the Republicans , and those who know the views of both authors will easily recognize that the articles were not very different 1 That was possible in 1956 Heretofore representative churchmen could differ in their choice of parties and candidates and still believe that they shared the same b...

Brubaker Holds College Weak in Arts Program ' [Newspaper Article] — F&M College Reporter — 9 October 1964

Brubaker Holds College Weak in Arts Program By TOM PHILLIPS For the second year the operation of the Green Room is in the hands of Professor Edward S . Brubaker , an English instructor for twelve years whose memories of F and iM date to his freshman year in 1945 When asked about the capabilities of students as actors at F and M , Brubaker commented that F and M has no school of drama and that most of the students who take part in Green Room productions do not think of the theatre m terms of a lifes work Not To Train This idea is in keeping with the Green Room s tradition that the place of a theater on campus should not be to train actors but to serve as a stage on which plays are presented to the students so that they may have a better understanding of plays and playwrights While there have been many talented young men who have acted upon the Green Room stage , the one young man whom Brubaker remembers best is Roy Scheider _Scheider was a student here from 1952 until his graduation ...
