The LoBdeB Tines and oir 7 Exhibition . The London Times has a very sarcastic article on the opening of the New York Crystal Palace , and the ceremonies connected wiih that opening . It . is particularly severe on President Pierce , and compares his trifling ! dttties with the enormous exertions made by . The Jullien Uamhng . [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 20 August 1853

The Jullien Uamhng . Is nt it sickening to read the stuff in the daily and weekly papers concerning this foreign musician . Every little . incident of his life - is narrated with minuteness , and endeavors made to impress the American people witb the belief , that every word said or written about him is true . Here is a specimen of how some of our independent editors write about foreigners : If Jullien became the rage among the people generally , ho was the utter delight of the ladies . Hia immaculate cravat , witb its incomparable tie , his vest of snowy whiteness , his delicately-tinted kids , those exquisite cuffs , matchless whiskers , and rhe indescribable grace with which he wielded his baton , were all wonderful and charming , and would throw his admirers into a kind of ecstacy . His success in this conn try will no doubt be of the Jenny Lind character , overwhelming and immense . . If it were not that we are opposed to profanity , we should say the above was the d—d st lot o...

THE SKIPPERS CABIN . A . TALK WITH OUR rBIKSDS—AT BOMB AlfD ABROAD . Beminiscens , s of the Yellow Fever in New York . —The frightful ravages of tbe yellow fever in New Orleans , have furnished a topic of conversation for all classes . While our Southern friends are being carried off by thousands by the dread pestilence , ? it is a matter of consolation to as that our own city is entirely freo from any infections disease , though at various periods , since 1791 , New York has suffered severely from the fatal effects of yellow fever . It was first observed bere in 17 & 1 , when General Malcolm and many other respectable citizens fell victims to its fury . In 1798 it was more fatal than at any period since . The first victim was Mr . Melancthon Smith , who was taken sick at his store in Front street , near Coenties Slip , and died soon after . Very few cases , however , occurred until August 20 , when the disease began to rage with greatViolence in the lower part of the ci...
