WANT CATTLE MEN South Western Reciprocity Advocates Fear Their Opposition . MEXICO HAS THE GLAD HAND . As Planned Reciprocity Will Bene- . fit Only Eastern Manu « faeturere . LIVB STOCK WORLD S SPECIAL SERVICB . TOI-EKA , KAN ., Jan . 20 . —Will the cattle Interests of the United States support a Mexican reciprocity movement ? This Is a point on which those responsible for the convention which is to meethere Wednesday with tliat object in view would like information . So far it is a business men s movement , Inspiration came from the popular demand in the east for reciprocity consequent on on President MoKinley s speech at Buf « falo . But southwestern people sizing up the situation concludod that reciprocity as planned would benefit the eastern manufacturer more than anyone else and th « agitation for closer commercial relation ! with Mexico is the result . • • # • Breeders of pedigreed live stack have si far shown little enthusiasm . Encourage Corn 'breeding . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 21 January 1902

Encourage Corn breeding . HORN breeding deserves encouragement . It is a much less complex proposition than improving live stock and millions of dollars have been put into the American farmer s pocket by that process . Intelligent men who have given the matter careful study and long experiment confidently express the opinion that corn improvement means as much as that of live stock . Improving corn merely requires better seed and more thorough cultivation . It is a simple matter and any farmer is in a position to work out his own destiny . Recently considerable valuable information by Prof . A . IX Shamel , of Illinois , on the topic was given in these columns , and today we print the salient features of an address recently delivered at Huntingdon , Ind ., by that talented agricultural scientist , DeWitt O . Wing . These contain sufficient to inspire any farmer who takes the least interest in his business to identify himself with the movement . r A well-known breeder explains his re...

% K ^ eciprocity With Mejeico . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 21 January 1902

% K ^ eciprocity With Mejeico . IIBANSAS has been heard from again . US Sne wailts reciprocity with Mexico . j A , South of the Rio Grande agricultural products are worth double what they are in our trans-Missouri region even when allowance for the difference in monetary value is made and wide-awake Kansans Accent an opportunity for a profitable ^ exchange of trade . A convention to discuss the matter is being held at Topeka $ hisweek . What action cattle interests may take is highly problematical . Breeders are not interested in the reciprocity movement for the reason that registered cattle are now admitted to the southern republic free , and raisers of market cattle are not likely to consent to the admission of Mexican herds into the United States . At the same time both Mexico and Canada offer splendid markets that deserve exploiting , and we cannot expect to do business with them unless we meet them half way . The Topeka convention can do no harm . It will probably accomplish so...

DeWittC . Wing On Value of Seed Corn [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 21 January 1902

DeWittC . Wing On Value of Seed Corn L . Do Witt of Wing , associate Editor ot the Parmer s Guide , recently addressed the Huntingdon Co ., Ind ., Farmers Institute _ . on the topic Good Seed Cera the basis at Gee * Jfeed » Good Cora Crop . The address was The Battr . replete with valuable Information and w , pertinent suggestion . At the outset Mr . Wing made this statement : Indiana farmers are annually growing about four minion acres of corn , yielding in round numbers 150 , 000 , 000 bushels , or about 38 bushels per acre . At 32 cents per bushel , the average price for ten yean from 169 L ear com crop Is worth forty-eight million dollars , a considerable factor In the commercial strength of the state . These figures sound wen and perhaps make as feel boastful as com growers nnlese we go beneath the deceptive surface they present and study those economic phases of corn production which receive but little attention . At market prices the nitrogen , potash aad phosphorie aetd remo...
