© to gum Fanlt-Finding . Very few persons seem to realize the depressing influence of fault-finding ; perhaps do not think they are fault-flndlng , hut consider all their remarks as only friendly , or at least necessary , criticism . Some people seem to feel quite sure their own peculiar woy of . doing a thing is the only right ancl proper way , and that they are Jn duty bound to find fault with and disparage any other ., They will say , — « What makes you do that way ? Why dont you do this way ? That s not the way to do it , —this is the way . THE POULTRY YARD [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural — 9 May 1868

THE POULTRY YARD Fowls in the Horse-Stable . Fowls should never be permitted to have access to tbehorse stable , nor the feed room , nor tbe hay-mow . Their roosts should be entirely separate from the stable , so that they may not always be ready to slip in , whenever a door is opened ; and that the vermin which infest poultry may not reach horses and cuttle . It is a well known . fact that fowls of all kinds frequently drop a very sordid , offensive , clammy , viscous ordure ; and when allowed to go on tbe bay-mow , or in the feedroom , or anywhere in the barn , they damage more fodder than we are wont to suppose . We would as soon allow fowls to live in the kitchen , and to hop on thedinner-table while we are eating , and to roost on our bedstead , as to allow tbem to have free access to the horse-stableatid born . Borne horses are always afraid of fowls ; and when one enters the manger , or rack , the tlmidhorses will immediately surrender their entire right , however hungry they...

THE APIARY [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural — 9 May 1868

THE APIARY Alsike Clover . For three years I have had about a half acre of this plant growing . It grows from half a foot to two feet in height according to the richness of the soil .. It makes good pasturage , but I doubt its equaling in quantity of growth the red clover . The hfulm is finer , and I think the quality must be superior , although it be not so large . It blossoms profusely aud yields an abundance of seed . It is hardy , and does not . winterkill on our snow-bare fields , except when fed down very close late in the Fall . - For bee pasturage I know nothing equaling it . It is in bloom for months , and furnishes labor for the bees all through the summer months , until hard frosts . If it was worthless for hay or pasture , I would almost think it-profitable for bee forage alone . L . L . F _ rac ___> . Rolling Prairie , Wit . Caution to Young Bee-Keepers , I see you devote space In your excellent paper to bee-culture . There is a good deal being written just n...
