Spicer , Bushell , III , to furnish a page of Berkshire matter for each issue . In this issue Mr . Spicer fires another shot along tlie line of The Profitable Type . A Sensational Pig by The Monarch . Mr . J . Lewis Letterle , Harrods Creek , Ky ., president of the Kentucky Berkshire Association , writes : We have in Lord Monarch 132000 , a sensational boar , sired by The Monarch 117000 , dam Premier Belle T 3 rd , by Premier Longfellow . We have never seen anything like him at his age . There is also a sow pig in this litter that is his equal . Tell L . E . Frost that if he wants to see a great pair of pigs to come to Walnut Hill Farm . I know he is from Missouri , but we can show him . Lord Monarch is one of the litter out of the sow Premier Belle T 3 rd that was sold in the Smith August 1909 sale to Mr . Letterle . The same mail that brings this letter , brings also a letter from J . W . Hibbard , Bennington , Mich ., in which he states that his Monarch boar , Royal Majesty , is a cracker jack . Surely The Monarch is proving his right to be classed among the great breedins boars .
A Trip to Oklahoma and Stop at Muskogee . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910
A Trip to Oklahoma and Stop at Muskogee . In my letter in the April issue I promised to say something about Muskogee in my next letter . This is one of the old towns of Indian Territory before the allotments were made , an Indian Agency having been established there in early times . The agency building still stands high on the hill in the western part of the city . Even before the time when the lands were allotted , this was the center where most of the government business with the Indians of the five civilized tribes was transacted , but especially since that time has this been so . Here is located the Dawes Commission with its five hundred clerks looking after the interests of tne government s wards of the reddish hue . Here also is the Union Indian Agency with almost an equal number of employees , who have to do with the affairs of the red men in land matters . Muskogee was only a small country town of several thousand inhabitants up to half a dozen years ago . Then it was that i...
