Haying well along and winter wheat ripening fast; the berry will be plump and ueavy. Griffith—Week favorable for all grow ing grain. Fletcher—Fine weather for wheat; too cool for corn and gardens, ftut it has been the best week of the season for all crops. A. 8. Whitman, a fugitive from justice, and bilk of the first water, who will be remembered as the bogm machine agent with a large propen sity for Stealing anything laying around loose, and incidentally other mens' wives, now gets his mail in Honolulu. If he can only be let re main in Hint far-away place it will be a God-send for this section of country C. P. Low has sold and rented out his land holdings and other property in this county and moved his family to Garfield where ho has purchased a farm and will reside in the future. Kanzler, John Kanzlerand Mrs. Henry Rosen off, who came here eighteen years ago and settled on a homestead four miles west of town has rented out his farm and move to town next week into his new cottage which is nearly completed * and is located not far from the resid ence of postmaster Sinclair. The old gentleman is 78years of age, and, with his elderly wife will spend the balance of his days in their new home. No prettier lawn graces any subur ban town on the coast, than the one at the Northern Pacific depot grounds which has been brought to such a tine state of perfection by the care of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Paskill. For neatness, taste and arrangement it cannot be excelled and illustrates what can be accomplished by those who have the energy and desire to baautify their surroundings. ...LOCAL TOPICS Fred Bcheel, who in 1883 opened the first hotel in the town, the Germania, on the site where the office of the ■Cacific now stands, Was in from his Tltm Monday, badly crippled up with rheumatism, which seems to have a firm hold on his constitution, hi being able to navigate only with the aid of a strong cane. He is an old pioneer and landmark in this section of tlie coun try, and has always enjoyed the confi dence and respect of the community. Frank Stuart of Spokane, son-in law of Oliver P. Tuttle, and former postmaster of this city, came down Thursday, and is employed as one of the skilled mechanics on the new Congregational Church, now under course of construction at the corner of B and Second streets. He has dis posed of his residence property in the city by the falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Will soon again be permanent residents of our city. C. L.
