Tin's is a common forest tree in Ibo Stale of Maine, in No xa Scolia nnd New Brunswick; it is found occasionally iu all of tho New England States, in Canada, and sparingly in Mich igan. It is wont to grow on cool, rich, moist soils, where its trunk rises up splendidly to the height of seventy or eighty feet, assuming a diameter of two or three feet. Tho leaves nra about tlireo and a hall inches long, two nnd a half hroad, being ovate, accumul ate and bordered with sharp and irregular teeth. This is a Tory handsome tree, with the trunk clothed with bark of a brilliant golden yellow.
