Willie had a prettyjpicture paper and Helen crumpled it But Willie is Tery particular to keep hi papers smooth and nice, so I am sorry to say he was very an gry, and slapped his sister. Then Helen slapped back again. Mother had to separate the children. She put one on the sofa, and the other on a stool te cool down and think. There are 40,000 pension cases on file in the War Department, await ing evidence. Dilligence is required "oTthe department, if the pensioners are not to be delayed in receiving their money, as a reduction in the force of the department can exer cise this diligence if it orders it. AMERICAN SILKS. It speaks well for the extension of the trade in American silks, and fnrnishes conclusive evidence of the excellence already attained by our manufacturers, that the amount of silk manufactured goods imported from the 1st of July to the 31st of January, in 1872-3, was $18,010,765, while the imports of the last seven months are only $12,508,850, which gives a falling off of $5,501,915, as is shown by the statistics of the Janu ary report of the American Silk Association. The House Committee on County Affairs hare decided to report in fa vor of the bill to submit the ques tion of the removal of the county seat of Wood County to a vote of the people. The Legislature will probably concur, and thus remove this troublesome question forever from the Assembly. Both the Bowling Green and Perrysbnrg par ties feel confident of carrying a ma jority of the people with them. THE FINANCE QUESTION. Specific measures, of various Kinas, naving rererence, more or less direct to the question of finan ces, are being brought to the atten tion of Congress, from time to time. Many of these are so obviously ab surd, that they do not necessitate discussion. In this list we classify the proposed reduction of the army. There are not enough troops to ef fectually protect our frontiers. Cer tainly it is not good economy to en courage India...
