SONG—TO A FRIEND IN THE STATES BY A. A. HASZARD, M.D. SACRAMENTO, CAL. I've been roaming, I've been roaming, Leaving all I loved before ; I'?« i been roaming, I've been roaming, To roam the wide world o'er aud o'er; To see what there is to be seen, hat on waters what on sod ; To find the place that's evergreen, - And learn from nature tip to God, That place I've ccen Chat's evergreen, By the peaceful water's tides, Where, like love's dream there runs • stream, That in its native beauty glides. I've been warning; I've been reaming, Where Andes' icy summits shine ; I've been roaming, I've been roaming, Here with friend my thoughts entwine; In their vallies oft a fear, 'Mid hopes and joys illumed a tear, Bringing present to my mind, All that home "aweet home" combined. Where the pomegranates grow, Where the orange nectar sweet, And every other fruit you know, In rich profusion round my feet. I've been roaming, I've been roaming. Through yonder mountains capp'd in snow ; I've been roami...
