Conrad, R-Shemjan Oaks, armed with a legislative counsel’s opinion that activities in soliciting funds in the department of employment violated the law, has called upon Governor Edmund G. Brown to take whatever disciplinary action is necessary. The opinion had been sought by Conrad concerning notices delivered to employes of the State department Of employment, at their desks, asking for Contributions of $25 per or $35 per couple toward a fund being used,to oppose the housing initiative on the November election ballot. The notices, which were Signed by the names of 21 persons, including a number of supervisory personnel in the department of employment, asked the contributions for a benefit performance at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento on March 26. Youths take elephant joy fide at zoo CCNA Two young men brake into Griffith Park Zoo early Tuesday morning and took elephant rides without apparent damage to the elephants or. themselves. Mike Wendt, chief animal keeper, said the youths broke three locks to get to the elephants. They were observed on top of the huge beasts by Mae Keppie, gardener on the early morning shift, who decided wisdom lay in giving the alarm rather than trying to capture the elephant Jockeys. By the time Keppel returned with Wendt the riders had disappeared. They were described as over six feet tall, slender, between 17 and 19 years old, ana with blond hair and the otter with dark wavey hair.
