Shclton Gilmore got a fourth place ribbone for the Bulldogs with an effort of 109 feel in the discus. In the junior varsity division Sam Pierce took second with a toss of 36 feet 5 inches while Mike Savcrse went 98 feet 4 inches in the discus for second place. Pierce was fourth In the discus with a 98 feet mark. Raul Guardiola was tenth in the 800 meters and 8th inthc 400 meters. Henry Walker put in a good effort for the Bulldogs with a G1.7 in the 400 meters and a 2G.G in the 200 meters. Adrian Ortiz competed in the 100 meters and 200 meters running a 13.00 and 27.06 respectively. The Bulldogs will enter the Ellison Relays in Kiilccn this Saturday April 3. Grain sorghum and corn are emer- ging rcpidly and mesquite trees are even starting to leaf out. Soil temperatures were high all of last week and cotton farmers will soon be planting their 1982 cotton crop. Last year we had a cotton variety test on Edward Schmidt's farm near White- hall. The varieties ranked in the following order: Delta Pino 41 (463); G&P 3774 (433); Paymaster 404 (420); SP 37-H Delta Pine SIM and Paymaster 145 (413 each); CAMD-E and G&P 3755 (410); Paymaster 792 (390); Rio 875 (388); GSA-71 (340); SP-21S (339); Lankart 57 (320) and GSA 75 (297). Page 2 Tribune-Progress Thursday April 15. 1982 Aniigas Class Meets In Joiner The Amigas Sunday School class of the First Baptist Church of Bartlett held its regular meeting April 1 in the home of Miss Pearl Joiner which was tastifully decora- ted for the Easter season. Mrs Vonelle Powitzky presi- dent presided. Mrs. Nell Butler gave the devotional based on "Beauty in God's Creation." This discussion began with the Bible background from Psalms 104 It emphasized the beauty we feel and ap- preciate in these natural surroundings: (1) the hea- vens that "declare the glory of God and the firmament that showcth His handi- work" (2) spring flowers (3) the colorful plumage and musical songs of our birds; (4) artistic designs in small things as the spider's web snowf lakes and sea shells; (5) animals of various cli- mates and (6) most Impor- tant beauty we see in the lives of those around us.
