Telegraphic Hews. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT) - ADELAIDE. March 27. It is mmonred that Osman Digna, whom General Graham defeated last week with very heavy loss, has fled to the mountain» to evade capture, and his troops are completely dis- banded. Major-General Gordon is now pre- paring for an attack on the rebel Arabs, which will probably .take place on the 16th of next month. The Snltan of Turkey is reported to be seriously affected, and it is rumoured that he is fast becoming a raving lunatic. Mr. Gladstone is rapidly recover- ing from, his attack of illness, and expects to resume his official duties on Monday. GENERAL PEARL NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — North Australian — 28 March 1884

GENERAL PEARL NEWS. DÜRING the past week the new industry has assumed a very important aspect. At present there are five boats en- gaged, two working for the North Aus- tralian Company*; one for Captain Reddell ; one for Captain Miller ; and one for à Mr. Clarke. All the boats have been for some days well occupied in a spot off Fort Point, and have been making splendid averages. This fact is well substantiated by a reference to the sailing notice of the s.s. Menmuir, which shows that Captain Miller (who only arrived here on the 16th instant) has been enabled to export about a ton and a third of shell for less than nine days' ; work. Altogether over two tons were shipped by the Menmuir for Thursday Island and Sydney by Messrs. Miller .and Reddell, and it is safe to presume that a much larger quantity than this . has been kept back by the North Aus- tralian Company and Mr. Clarke's repre- sentative. Both the two former named gentlemen intend sending more boats round here as' soon as p...
