The expected departure of His Ex- cellency the Governor in a few days,, and hjs comparatively innocuous powers, have i given room (of the display of scenes of the deepest ingratitude on < the part of ,some public officers, that is, to say the least of it, disreputable and reprehensi- ble. So long as the " loaves and fishes" were in their patron's hand, even though confessedly <ca small thing among so many," it was not unusual to witness the most fawning-, cringing, fulsome ser- vility by the coteries we allude to, while they exerciseil the most odious and over- bearing" supremacy to others. markets. (thursday, october 6.} The Market was badly supplied this morning, and several articles had considerably advanced in pi ice since our last quotations. 350 bushels of WHEAT were brought to market, and dis. posed of from 6s. to 7s. per bushel. MAIZE was selling from 3s. to 3s. 3d. per bushel, being an advance of a shilling since last market, day. BARLEY, OATS, and RYE, were at the same paces as last market. POTATOES have become so scarce that a rise of 6s. per cwt. has taken place during the week. Several other desciiptions of VEGETABLES have also taken a considerable advance. BUTTER was rather lower. POULTRY, without any alteration. Butcher's meat still at the late advance.
