A SUBMERGED CITY. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser — 6 July 1894

A 'SUBMERGED CITY.. Along the coast of East Suffolk, between the fertile well-hooded country and the North Sea, extends for msny miles a strip of moor, now wider and now narrower, and broken here and there by patches of culti vation, an undulating waste of heath and foise bushes, dottted with little woods of r— desolate district in winter time, - but when whin or heather is in blossom, by no means devoid of beauty. To the eastward, where onoe projected the southern horn of Sole Bay, the moorland ends at a low cliff of crumbling sand. There are no buildings on the cliff save the stark walls and oracked tower of an old ohurch, which on . the very edge stands tottering to its fall, doomed to be undermined ere long by the encroaching sea. Thu rained and deserted ohnroh and a petty hamlet near by are known by the name of Dunwich. A famous name. A proud city it was that once bore it - in mediaeval times a great city. Where it is now? Gone utterly — vanished off t-.e face of the earth. Fou...

FRENCH SHEPHERDS ON STILTS. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Star and Temora and Barmedman Advertiser — 6 July 1894

FRENCH SHEPHERDS ON STILTS. On the baiTen, sandy Landeg in the south of Franca, th* shaep.and piga do not Jive in clover, nor does tbe shepherd fart luxurious - If. 'thm people are rail of queer notions. They assert that potatoes aanse apoplexy, that milk it unhealthy, that wheat bread spoils the sfomaoh, - .and that onions, , garlic and rye bread a week old in their country, is the best and moat healthy diet. The shep herds walk on stilts, eat on b tilts, and if they do not sleep on stilts, they rest on salts for hours together by means of a stilt rest. This is a long stilt like stick, having a oresoentio curve at the top to fit the book. Thus with the stilts stretched out to rig-ht and left, and this stick in the rear, they are well braced. The stilt walkers manage to. go through the deep and shifting sands at the rate of six or seven miles an huur. Tbe dress of .the shep herd is rough and quaint,. He wears a sheepskin 'with the wool on, in form of a loose hooded coat. — A. 3. Eri...
