Liverpool Council Another letter has been received from   the P.M.G.'s Department (through the   Hon. H. P. Lazzarini) repeating that it is not possible at present to instal a   permanent automatic telephone exchange to serve all local subscribers. CORRESPONDENCE (TO THE EDITOR) [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 23 January 1947

CORRESPONDENCE (TO THE EDITOR) Sir, If the policy of your paper is obvious- ly to boost Liverpool might I suggest chat you could find more representative features to publicise than gleanings ' írom the police court. Some papers find this unsavoury gossip to be profitable copy but those who do not consider it exactly family reading are at liberty to ¿eave such papers on the news stands not so your paper, which is delivered aito the household. You proceed to advertise the forth- coming celebrations but if there is sa little of interest in the town dhat you are constrained to record the sorry pro- cession of drunks and undesirables high lighed by an occasional lurid case then may one reasonably "why come 'Back Ho Liverpool'?" Yours, etc., I KATHLEEN VENESS. Liverpool, 11th January, 1947.

POULTRY FARMERS Record Production but not Record Returns [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 23 January 1947

POULTRY FARMERS Record Production ¡but not Record Returns In the ist January early edition of the Sun, appeared an article under the heading "Record Year of Production,' in whirh Mr. R. C. Blake, Deputy Con- troller of Egg Supplies, was quoted and certain additional observations were made. It was interesting to read that production this year would reach 120 mill|on dozen eggs and that exports to Great Britain this year wduld also be a r?cord. Also.that since July we have exported 18 million dqzen eggs in shell, 25 million lbs of egg pulp and two to three million lbs egg powder i (In all the equivalent of 52- militan .dosen eggs). Exception however wa& ' taken to the statement credited to Mr. Blake that poultry farmers now receive a better all-round price for eggs than ever be- fore. The article went on to state that according the Hawkest|iry Cojtege E?g Laying Competition, this year, poul- try fanners profit on each hen is 17/33 a year while in 1343 it was 10/8. The followin...
