PASTORAL Stock and Station Produce. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Country Life — 13 May 1901

KJ I V§> <2/ 1 Stock and Station Produce. The markets during the month have on all sides been particularly satisfactory to pastoral ists. Cattle have maintained their prices all round, and though the days when lower rates will be ruling appear not far distant by the in crease of stock all along the coast-lands, the market has a very buoyant look indeed, best beef making about 22/6 per 100 lbs. Hide3 have advanced considerably, and are likely to move up still further, while tallow is 10J- higher than our previous quotation. The greatest in terest, however, has been centred round the? strong buying of the London Wool Sales, and the substantial advance in prices amounting in the aggregate to thousands of pounds to the Queensland wool-growers who have been lucky "to have the wool off the top of the sheep, from the place where wool ought to grow." Cattle.-Market likely to fall somewhat; bul locks, extra, to 7s. 6d.; good, to I2S. 6d.; medium, to jQj 15s. Cows, best, to ; me...

The Farewell Luncheon. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Country Life — 13 May 1901

The Farewell Luncheon. The inspection over, luncheon was served in the magnificently decorated saloon. His Majesty took the centre of the table, the Queen sitting opposite, with the Duke of Cornwall on her right and the Duke of Connaught on her left. The King had the Duchess of Cornwall on his right and the Duchess of Fife on his left. As soon as the meal was over, the King rose^ to propose the toast of the day. In tones which evinced the emotion he felt at parting with his only surviving son, His Majesty pointed out that possibly few of even those present realised what this journey and long separation from his dear son and daughter-in-law meant to himself and the Queen, especially in view of the gre vious loss which they and the whole Empire had so lately sustained. He went on to say that personal feelings, however deep and poignant they might be, could not be allowed to stand in the way of a national duty, and he counted it a national duty that the Duke of Cornwall and York should...
