Swamp Drainage. [Newspaper Article] — Bunyip Free Press and Berwick Shire Guardian — 30 April 1914

Swamp Oralitigii At a meeting of the State Cabinet on Tuesday, presided over l>y l'remier Watt, the question of properly draining the Kooweerup Swamp was again diacusscd. A couple of months ago the settlers waited on Premier Watt and protested against tba scheme prepared by the Water Commission being carried out, it being urged that tho proposed taxation (extending over 56 years) would be unjust, and the whole question was referred again to. the Water Commission. .Certain amendments wore suggested by the Com missioners, and these came before the Cabinet for consideration. According to reports iu " The Age" and " Argus " the Cabinet considered the matter in the following light:—"When a scheme estimated to coat £25,000 was put forward, the Ministry's contribution was set down at £7,000. In view of the fact that a fuller scheme, to coBt £55,000, has now been approved, the Cabinet has resolved to raise its contribution proportionately to £15,100.
