CORRESPONDENCE. THE RAILWAY BUS COMPETITION. To the Editor. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 18 February 1927

CORRESPONDENCE. THE RA1IAVAY BUS COMPETITION. To tlio Editor. 81r,—I see from reading tilt City I newspapers that tin: authorities arc still determined to continue rntilling the Goverumeni buses in competition : with the private buses. C thought the Labor Government would have • given the private bus owner a bit of ; a show. I admit I am interested in ■ the private buses. That is why I I speak feelingly. I was in town last ' week and was told that special powers had been given to the Railways Com missioner to buy and use motor ve hicles to convey passengers and goods, and that all the Labor members sup ported it. After all that Mr. Collins has been saying against the railway bus, I cannot, for the life of me, under stood his action. We were told that the Commissioner had no right to run his buses, and that it was against the law, and the opinion of Sir Josiab Cymon was obtained, and he too said that the Commissioner's action was unlawful, and a big meeting was held in Adelaide .to p...

EUDUNDA FARMERS' CO OPERATIVE SOCIETY. It is understood that considerable dissatisfaction prevails anion g the shareholders of the society dealing from the "Pyap" and residing adjacent to the river. Sometime ago a largely signed petition was presented to the directors requesting the purchase of a new boat much bigger than the "Pyap." This would mean that the society would be able to cater tor the transport, needs of its share holders; also, to carry a larger range of goods. Up-river residents experi ence great difficulty In handling material and having it brought to their" respective landings owing to'tbe shortage of adequate river transport facilities, and it Is thought that by the purchase of a larger boat this difficulty would be overcome. Mr. Clem Collins, M.P., lias been approached by numerous shareholders and asked to organise the shareholders and peti tion the KegiVjtrar of Companies for a special meeting of the society with a view to bringing the needs of country shareholder...
