BLOCK 10 The well-known and popular shift- 1 boss on this mine (Mr. T. Matters)- had a narrow escapc from an accident yes-, terday. While getting a sample from the i, 400ft. level, he struck the . back with the hammer and dislodged a piece weichiiiK about 3cwt. Fortunately it did not tall right on him, but pushed him aside, and, striking the .ground/ fin ally pinned him bv the feet. Two men lifted the piece ot rock from lus- feet, when it was discovered that -Mr. Matters had escaped with a nasty shock.'
