*/ lgriculture to the Front . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 20 January 1902

*/ lgriculture to the Front . ¦ ngiiJi , leading agricultural colleges are ~* U succeeding so well because they are not allowing agriculture to bo subordinated . Unfortunately in some of the state institutions there is a tendency to do too much theorizing and too little real work . Because the time devoted to agriculture was not considered sufficient a wordy dispute was precipitated in the recent convention of Kansas breeders at Topeka , passage of a condemnatory resolution being pievented only Avhen vigorous and emphatic assurance was given by the president of the college that he was f riendly to agriculture . Now comes Prof . Thomas . Shaw who told the Minnesota Breeders Association that the study of live stock at the Minnesota agricultural college , where he is professor of animal husbandry , is not receiving sufficient attention and has induced the association to appoint a committee instructed to lodge a protest with the college management . Prof . . Shaw asserts that only thirt...

"When" Instead of "If [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 20 January 1902

When Instead of If eOUCIISTOXE , the cheery clown in Shakespeare s As You Like It declares that there is much virtue in an If . A correspondent of Freedom , however , says : When —can tbe made to take the place of if , and to me seems to suggest expectancy instead of doubt . Should a person ask me to do something why do I imply a doubt by saying— if I can ? — ¦ why not say , when I can ? : —o Italy proposes to prevent the exportation of great statuary and paintings . Italy knows that if something of this kind were not done America would soon own a laree share of the masterpieces . The Art Institute on Sunday was crowded far beyond comfort by people to see the great Verestchagin war paintings . Let us hope these pictured horrors will tend to hasten the day when swords are beaten into pruninghooks and guns into plowshares . o He who makes two bushels of corn grow where one grew before is surely a benefactor . How that is done will be explained at the Illinois College of Agriculture du...

Went Fishing and Caught—a Bear . From the Denver Post . John W . But he found something else up in the Gunnison country which he didn t like at all and which he was not looking for . Mr . Springer , Secretary C . F . Mirtin , of the Live Stock association , President W . Lloyd tirubb , of the Colorado Horse and Caul j Growers association ; Addison C . THE HORSE MARKET [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 20 January 1902

THE HORSE MARKET Receipts More Moderate And Trade Comparatively Steady . BIG RUN OF MEDIUM DRIVERS . Good Field of Buyers and a Good Clearance is Being Effected . Farm Trade Active . Trade opened steady this morning under the influence of more moderate receipts and an increased attendance of buyers . The receipts run largely to medium drivers this forenoon for which there was a pretty active inquiry and a better clearance was effected in all classes than at the opening last week . There were no choice heavy drafters of the finished type , the low prices quotable for this class during the past month having largely discouraged the marketing of this clas * . The best this morning sold at tl 25 < S 170 , with plainer offerings $ 90 ^ 125 . Several new buyers put . in an appearance and trade bids fair to continue steady throughout the week unless receipts become excessive . Medium drivers sold today at a range of » 75 ® 150 , and common offerings lower . There were no sensatio...
