We observe that there is copied into the Illinois Advocate , an article which imputes to the editors of this paper the most ungenerous sentiments in relation to the claims of our late volunteers . We cannot believe that the respectable editors of that paper would seriously attribute to us the disposition charged upon us in the article to which we have referred . If they do , they have yet to learn us . We therefore say to the editors of the Advocate , that we will regard it as an act of courtesy on their part , if they , will state in their paper , that we entirely disavow the sentiments imputed to us in the juvenile effusion toil noticed .

TK 3 SMIEOTCS ,. We Irave doubled the expediency of publishing the following commumcation . and tve have stili our doubts upon the subject . The sentiments may be just . but in our bumble opinion they are too pointed to effect the object designed ;—at least , we are of this opinion . The article is from a distant village , and of course does not refer to Ihe freaks exhibited in this place on Christmas and now year s . To describe those freaks would tax the powers ol H himself . But here is the piece , and every reader may make up his own mind on its merits An Expostulation . Good Messrs . Primer .-,, tell us why This turmoil , ulion the year s cone by . 'TUF . GRAVE . [Newspaper Article] — Sangamo Journal / Illinois State Journal — 19 January 1832

It banes every error ; covers every delect ; extinguishes ey < ry resentment Who can look down on t e grave even of an enemy , and not feel a compunctious throb , that he should have warred with the mouldering dust before him ? But the grave of those he loved—what a place for meditation ! Then it is we call up in long , review the whole history of virtue and g-cntlencss . and the thousand endearments lavished upon us almost unheeded in the daily intercourse of intimacy—then it is we dwell upon tlte tenderness , the solemn and awful tenderness of the parting scene ; the bed of death , with all the stilled grief ; its noiseless attendants , its mute watchful assiduities ! the last testimonies of expiring love !
