SECOND MUREDB III CHAVES IN MOUNTH. Tueadar'a ftaawall Raeord. J. D. Middleton, aged 31 years and a sheep breeder whose ranch and home ia fifteen miles up the Rio Felix west of Hagerman and 25 miles southwest of Roswell, was shot i i) the back and instant ly killed yesterday afternoon. John Higgs. of this city, is ac cused of the crime and is now be ing hunted by the officers. He is thought to have ridden off Mid dleton's horse. Middleton was shot with a 30-30 rifle and the bullet is thought to have been of the soft nose variety, for it did not pass through the body, tear ing a big hole in the man's back and shattering the spine im mediately back of the heart. It is thought probably that the heart was injured, also. The cause of the shooting is said to have been a depute over the wages to be paid the son...

Can9 1 Court, JiIAogn!i, NINETEENTH YEAR ODD FELLOWS DOINGS A Large Crowd go to Artesia on Special Train at Noon Wednesday to Cel ebrate 92nd . Year. TRAIN RETURNS AT 2.30 A. M. Wednesday was certainly a gala day for the Odd Fellows up and down the entire valley, it being the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the order. Pursuant to invitation the lodges from Carlsbad, Hope, Lake Arthur, Hagerman and Roswell met at Artesia at the time above mentioned as did the Rebekahs from the various pla ces above named. One hun dred and thirty-five tickets were sold at the city ticket office, a number of citizens who were not members of the order going up with the Odd Fellows. The special train left promptly at noon, as advertised, the Carls bad band, twenty-seven strong, being atxmrd and discoursing sweet music as the truin pulled out from the station.
