The Democrat. HON. WILLIAM ALLEN. His Life and Public Services. Cincinnati Enquirer. Hon. William Allen was. born in the year 1807 in Virginia, between "Blue Ridge" and Alleghtny. He went to Chil. licothe, Ohio, when a mere boy. He was there without money and without frieflds. He had energy, ability, honesty.; Of his life aa a boy and as a young lawyer we have not time to speak. He first appear ed prominently before the publio in 1833, when he was elected to the House of Re presentatives of the United States. He was a membei of the Committee on Indian Affairs. The circumstances of this elec tion were peculiar and interesting. He had paid his addresses to-the daughter of Governor Duncan McArthun" Qovernot MoArthur was his opponent in this cam paign. In the fall of '71 there was 4 acres sown in wheat following oat; there was thrashed 85 bushels in the spring of '73 ; there was 3 acres of corn stubble sown in oats that yielded 125 buBhela, a trifle over 41 bush els per acre ; 225 bushels of corn was raised from 4 acres of sod ground , of po tatoes there was J acre planted that yield ed 35 bushels ; of apples from 1 acres of orchard 125 bushels, a large amount being left to feed stock not being herein accoun ted for.
