SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1879. Official Paper of the County and Village THEALFOA B11LROAD. The Committee on Railways In the House of .Representatives, at Lansing, have made a report favorable to the do nation of three sections of swamp land to the mile of a railroad from some point on the Jackson, Lansing and Saginaw railroad to Alpena.' The distance is com puted at 100 miles, and the grant is to come from the vacant swamp lands in the counties traversed by the road; but it there be not a sufficient quantity to ful fill the term3 of the grant, then the re mainder is to be taken from the lands in fresque Isle county. It has been esti mated that between 4,000 and 6,000 acres Will be required from Fresquo Isle coun ty. The lands are to become taxable as soon as earned, or as soon as patents for the same are issued by the state. The whole scheme is unjust to other portions of the state and should not pass. NORTHERN TRIBUNE SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 1879. Official Paper of the County and Village TOWTl TALK. The fire company was out lor practice Wednesday evening. The April term of the supreme court opened at Lansing last Tuesday with 10 cases on the docket. The snow bus disappeared from the streets of the village, the frost is about out and the mud pretty well dried up. Robert Robinson is to be congratulated. Monday be was surprised by being elect ed Supervisor, and the same day became a father. It is a fine boy. The mail came through on runners Wednesday, and it it could be called sleighing, we have had 123 days ot con secutive sleighing this winter. Do not forget the walking match at the Town Hall next Monday evening. Give the band a good benefit, the boys deserve it. A social hop will be given at the close of the walking. At Charleston, S.
