D. A. Belmore Lumber Company We will meet all Competition both in prices and grades. Now ready for business Jordan's Store (Correspondence) Crops are fine here and most of the farmers will have a surplus of feed stuff so that people coming too late to make a crop can get it at a reasonable price. If the road over the Cap Rock were improved Tucumcari would get the trade ten miles south of this place, but at present this road is dreaded by all. Teams coming out of Tucumcari often have to wait for help or haul one half up the hill and unload and return for the other half. This is very hard for both team and driver. Many are going to plant good crops of cotton next year as the little that was planted this year shows it is a success. . A mass meeting was called on October 12, for the purpose of or ganizing a school district and fix ing its boundaries. Committees were appointed to take a subscrip tion to build and furnish a school house sufficient to accommodate sixty students. This post-...

TUCUMCARI IS A HUMMER The Towi's Ultimate Success Is Already Assured. PEOPLE UNITED AND PULLING TOGETHER Judtfu i. V. Lonjr, ex-Chirl Justice of the Supreme Court is in town on business before the Dis trict Court. Our reporter found him at breakfast this morning and by a proper application of the pump handle process, secured a few items of interest. "What do you think, Judge, of Tucumcuri and its prospects?" 'Tucumcari as the boys ex press it is a 'hummer.' I arrived here Monday evening on the delay ed train over the Dawson and went to the Glenrock where I usually stop and found every room occu pied. Other rooming houses were full, but I finally secured a room at the Adams House, a new place built since my last trip here. On inquiry, I learned that all the ho tels and rooming places were fully occupied. I wanted to be nearer the court officials, so Tuesday morning 1 applied for rooms at the Cover hotel, but was unable to se cure accommodations. By the way Charlie Downs, the efficien...

1 V -r" ! Volume s. No. 4 MILL OF JUSTICE GRINDING VERY FINE Many True Bills Returned and Quay County Ha.s Her First Conviction by Jury Trial. The Wheels of Justice have been grinding very fine since the con vening of the District Court for Quay county on the 21st of Octo ber. Quay county has had her first jnry conviction, and the grand jury has returned in the neighbor hood of seventy true bills. Thos. B. Hunt was the first to be tried at the present criminal term, and was found guilty, after a short deliberation of the jury, of burglariously breaking and enter ing with intent to commit a felony, the cold storage plant and ware house of W. B. Jarrell on the 30th of September. He was "found with the goods," and the Territory had a clear case against him. He had partaken too freely of Jarrell's "Highlife," which he had appro priated from the warehouse and dedicated to his own use; the "Highlife" was too much for him! Next morning he was found in a state of intoxication with the empty...

STATEHOOD Lt AGUE IS ORGANIZED (Continued from I'ajje Two) elect ollicurs, and adopt resolu tions endorsing the statehood movement. The next and most important step, is to appoint suit able committees whose duties shall be to canvass the counties pre cinct by precinct and see to it that every voter is reprssented in the Statehood League thus formed. This is as far as the county organ izations have gone thus far. The committees will report at the meet ing and further steps looking to ward the common end will be sug gested. The time is very short in which to get the movement properly un der way and I would suggest that this matter be taken up in your county at an early date. A pre liminary organization may be af fected, temporary officers elected and with the nucleus thus formed, we will be in a position to push the matter unitedly. The sentiment of the people all over the Territory is on a par with the people of your county and the only thing now necessary is to prop crly bring this ...

STATEHOOD LEAGUE IS ORGANIZED (Continued from Page Four) statehood bill, admitting Arizona and New Mexico as separate states, he communicated with the commit tee, Republican and Democratic and informed them that the only possibility then of attaining state hood was to pass a bill which was afterward termed the "Omnibus Bill," admitting Arizona and New Mexico as one state, That appealed to me and I was one of the committee who went to Washington in behalf of that meas ure. The oniy difficulty in pass ing that bill at that time was three or four senators: it went through the house all right, but could not get through the senate. They did not think we were fit to be admitted as a state, the people of New Mexico and the people of Arizona. Now I think we could get many people in the Eastern states and a num ber of the senators on our side; and the few senators who may object fo our being admitted. We used to wrangle over the question of statehood, some in fa vor of it, others against it....
