The Citv. Bryant and Vincent have our thanks for late and interesting papers. We are glad to see them so prosperous. They are building up useful establishments', and the public warmly appreciate their enterprise. We visited the county jail yesterday jn company with sheriff Lord, and were pleased with the great improvements lately Biade. There are Bix cells on the ground floor, and they have lately been overhauled and rennovated throughout. A new cook house has beeh built in the yard, and every thine fixed up in the best style for the eomfort of the prisoners. There are now ten prisoners confined in the cells, viz : the Mexicans who committed the robbery at Mr Balje's, and the two murderers of the old mendicant, Thomas Russell, and one insane Norwegian woman. The prisoners are all in g°°d health, and everything about the place looks clean and in good order. Sheriff Lord deserves much credit for his management of this place, and is determined that none of his boarders shall escape unt...

-rf The Citv. VI It has beea remuked by an eini- bent and far-seeing writer, that "The pro- bet study of mankind is man." Acting on the above quotation, we desire to make a few remarks about the men, the business ,-h and the general routine of things in this | city. Third, Vegetables plenti- Jjtl; market "glutted greenbacks up to- day and down to-morrow. Fourth, Freights gone to the field of glory. Fittb, Hurry, hurry, is the order of the day ; the Editor is seen hurrying to his sanctum ; the printer to his case ; the doctor to his patient; the merchant to bis store; the preacher to his "pulpit," and the dying man hurrying to Eternity, a location we have never seen yet chalked on the Atlas, but no doubt it standB on the Atlas of Heaves.
