CONCERT AND COFFEE;; SUPPER. Tot 27th anniversary of the \Vest' Ml bourne Baptist Church,: Millar-Street, was celebrated by the above enterteiti ment, last-Tuesday evening; the Rev. Dr. Wolfenden, U., pastor; presidinhg; and the building being-well filled. The preaching. dais and ;oth6t r'ar-ts f the church were decorated with plants and evergreens, and the general effect was very pleasing. The following programme was submitted, and carried out in a first class manner,'and thoroughly enjoyed: Anthem, by the choir, "I will feed my Flock ;" pianoforte fantasia, "Sintshine and Tempest," DMr. T. Alder-this was a musical description of a village festival in England, its interruptioin by a thunderstornm, and the singing of the " Old Hundreth" psalm by ti?e villagers in the church in which they have taken refuge from the weather, was graphically portrayed on thie piano keys. FIRE AT WEST MELBOURNE. SMAN BURNT TO DEATH. SHnorTLY after 1 n.m. on Sunday a fire broke out in. a 13 stalled stable in King st., West Melbourne, the building being rented by Mr. John Illbuau, bootmaker and livery stable keeper. It appears that the outbreak was first observed by Mr. d. l)alrymple, of King-street, who gave the firemen the alarm, and soon afterwards Deputy-Chief Officer O'Brien: was on the scene, but the building was in such a csilets blaze that thatoffieer and.his meen abandoned any hope of sar ing it and its contents. Sub-Inspector Waters and Constable Bobsie made strenuous endeavors to get at the hay loft where a stableman named Charles -ittc?hfell ithli employ of Mr. Illman usually slept. NORTH MELBOURNE C.Y.M. SOCIETY. ThE above society held its ordinary weekly meeting in St. Mary's School room, Victoria-street, on Monday eve ning. The President (Bro. J. Brodie) in the chair. There was a fair attendance of members. The secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were confirmed; he. also reported that the Society's team were defeaved on last Friday evening, by the North Fitzroy team; in the Debate Tournament, yet that was almost expected, as the places of the three principle debaters had to be filled by substitutes at the last moment, conscquently our Society was represented by its second-class team, who acquitted theuselves most creditably under the difficulty of debating almost impromptu against a well organized team.
